About Us

Medical Design (MD) is a club of medical students at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Medical Design serves to equip new generations of physicians with the tools to face healthcare challenges through design thinking. Medical Design aims to support the development of physician leaders in engineering and design roles to deliver healthcare services through the improvement, innovation and design of medical technology, systems and procedures. Through the intersection of medicine and innovation, we strive to empower physicians and medical students to act on the front lines of delivering healthcare solutions to improve patient care.

The development of this website serves as an open-source platform for the consolidation of Computer Aided Design (CAD) files that can be used for 3D printing of materials for use in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against COVID-19. Each design has at minimum been verified as a viable file to be printed and will have further designation based on the level of clinical testing it has previously undergone. Further information and instructions will be linked to the original source designer. We are volunteers who believe in the power of community, the sharing of knowledge and the embracing of technology to protect one another.
